I find sports stores as boring as I find electronics stores. I know this makes me strange but give me a thrift store or used book store over these any day! Thankfully, Eli is always willing to amuse me.

A New Year ... A New Season ...
How can it be that I last posted in 2016?! What is happening? The expression "time flies" is simply annoying at this point.
Since I last posted, my SECOND child has gotten married AND I have become a Grandmother. GRANDMOTHER!
If I think really hard, I can vividly remember rocking my Mary (who is now 21) while thinking, "If I die tomorrow it will be ok because God has given me THIS precious moment." That thought has gone through my head multiple times over the years. When watching the kids play in the snow or when nursing a tiny baby in the middle of the night or when proudly watching a child use the gifts God has given him in a spectacular way ... over and over again. I have tried to consciously embrace each day over the years. Because, as the Bible says ...
"Man is like a mere breath. His days are like a passing shadow." Psalm 144:4
As much as I get frustrated that stupid time flies, I also am so thankful that my time is filled with so much wonder and joy.
Every year I post "A Day in the Life" at the beginning of the year but this year I've found this so difficult to do. The new season I am suddenly in is just so different. Every day, every hour, every moment just seems different. You would think after 27 years of marriage, 17 pregnancies, 10 babies, 20 (ish) moves, 3 high school graduations, 2 marriages and a grandson I'd be one experienced mamma ... and, maybe I am, but this new season is so different.
This year Mike continues to travel off and on, working hard to provide for our every need and want. This man is steadfast and never ceases to amaze me with is diligence and hard work. He is a good, good man.
I am homeschooling 6 kids (Anna, Rachel, Lizzy, Eli and my lovelies, nephew Winston and niece Lily) while also caring for a few adorable extras throughout the week. This may seem overwhelming to some but littles (kids between newborn and 10) are my people. They energize me. They inspire me. They bring me joy. They make me laugh. They make me feel young. They get me and I get them.
My three high schoolers, Ben, Jacob and Tim, are at a new high school. It is ... not my favorite. But, it is a means to an end. These three boys have been resilient in the midst of lots of change and adversity and I am so thankful for them.
Luke is in college, working hard and acting. He's also dating a wonderful young lady, Niqui.
Mary and Joe are married. MARRIED! Mary married her high school sweetheart, Alastair, last December and Joe married his high school sweetheart, Michaela, in June, 2016. Joe and Michaela gave us our first, precious grandson, Teddy, in early September and we are over-the-moon in love with this little gift.
So, what is a day in the life these days? It looks a little like this ...
School. We start at 9:00 (ish) and work until we are done. Devotions, handwriting, math, language arts and history. (Art, science and so on are done at co-op on Thursdays.)
The "bar" is where kids who can not focus or quit being "annoying" sit ... today was Rachel's day. Poor Rachel. (Don't feel sorry for her ... she was being REALLY annoying.)
Lily and Eli finish early and are more than happy to get outside and play.

This was new this year ... Ben's monthly infusion of Remicade happened to fall on the first day of school. So, while the kids at home doing "rest and read", Winston and I helped Ben settle in at Poudre Valley Hospital for a 4 hour infusion. Lucky Ben. (In March, Ben was diagnosed with a rare from of juvenile arthritis which is treatable but not curable. Sweet, gangly, gregarious Ben.)

While chatting with Joe, Eli kept handing Luke new costume additions which Luke, without hesitation, put on one at a time. Finally, I started cracking up and Luke leapt into baby tickling action. My kids are weird.
These are my three-peas-in-a-pod. Joe, Michaela and our darling grandson, Teddy.
Every day is different but good. We miss our Mary and Quincy who are living in Grand Rapids so very much. I hope to sneak away for a visit at some point but as you can see my days are FULL!
